Man proposes Sangerville gentlemen’s club

0 Comments | Bangor Daily News, May 29, 2010 | by DIANA BOWLEY

SANGERVILLE – A Portland-area man has submitted a plan to town officials for the construction of a gentlemen’s club-nightclub- lounge at 1185 North Dexter Road.

Stephen D. Cardelli recently notified the town that he intends to complete the project by September. According to his application, Cardelli plans to sell food and offer entertainment. Although the application does not specify what kind of entertainment will be offered, at least one resident is concerned it will be a “strip joint.”

A former house on Cardelli’s property burned in February 2009 after a renter stored hot ashes too close to a wall, according to authorities. Only an enclosed in-ground pool remained on the property after the fire.

Cardelli plans to construct a building to house the nightclub- lounge, according to George Tozier, Sangerville’s code enforcement officer

You certainly couldn’t keep my clients waiting outside your business for an hour when they have an appointment — you’d be out of business!

So what can your small business learn from this?

- If you have a reception area, make sure your clients or customers are made to feel like they are important to your business. This area should match the look and feel of what your company values.

- It’s a good thing to have policies and procedures, but don’t post it on signs all around your office for the world to see.

- Make sure the first person your customers find when they visit your office is the “Creator of Great First Impressions,” not the gatekeeper.

Pawnbroker opens first Welsh store

0 Comments | South Wales Evening Post, May 19, 2010

THE UK’s largest independent pawnbroking business has opened its first outlet in Wales.

The Neath store of Ramsdens Financial is the first of several planned for South Wales in the coming weeks.

It will open another branch in Port Talbot in June as well as launching further outlets in Merthyr Tydfil and Cardiff. As well as traditional pawnbroking, the chain sells, repairs, buys and values jewellery as well as offering cheque cashing, payday loans and foreign currency.

Ramsdens bought a Scottish group of jewellers in February last year and now has 16 outlets there out of its 59 nationwide.

The firm’s chief executive officer Peter Kenyon said: “This is proving to be a boom period for pawnbroking and gold buying which are our two main services.

“The reception we have received in Scotland over the last year has given us the confidence to expand into Wales where I am sure we will be equally welcomed, if not more so.”

The Neath shop, in Angel Street, will be managed by local woman Judith Ireland who will oversee two staff.

Ramsdens was founded in the North East of England by the father of its current executive chairman, Stewart Smith.

In September last year the company became the first high street pawnbroker to set up an online service in the UK.

Burglar filled suitcase with haul at flat

0 Comments | Evening Post; Bristol (UK), Jul 27, 2010

AN 18-YEAR-OLD burglar was caught on CCTV entering his victim’s flat with a suitcase to fill with DVDs and computer games, a court heard.

Ross Madden was living in Bristol Foyer in the city centre, which provides accommodation for homeless youngsters, when he burgled two other residents last year.

Madden, who now lives with his girlfriend in Ashley Down Road, admitted the offences at Bristol Crown Court yesterday.

He was given a community order with an 18-month supervision requirement 1 and ordered to complete 160 hours of unpaid work as well as programme requirements.

Richard Posner, prosecuting, told the court that the first incident took place in October.

A resident at Bristol Foyer had to give in his flat keys as a deposit for playing pool, and Madden got hold of the keys and used them to enter the flat and steal 50 DVDs, two games consoles and 20 games, worth about Pounds 1,000.

Madden was seen on CCTV in the block of flats entering the victim’s flat with a suitcase, and leaving with it a while later.

The second offence took place between December 12 and 16, when he burgled the home of a woman who had only been living at the Foyer for five weeks.

When she went away on holiday, Madden broke in by smashing a window on her balcony.

Mr Posner said he stole a novelty light, a stereo and a laptop, worth Pounds 1,200, and then vandalised her room by turning over her mattress, taking everything off her shelves and emptying moisturiser over the walls.

Timothy Rose, defending, said that other people had been involved with the burglary in December, and that Madden had not been the one to vandalise the room.

Mr Rose told the court that Madden had been an ambassador for Knightstone Housing, who runs the Foyer, but had fallen in with the wrong crowd.

He said: “He simply did not understand the impact of these offences on the victims or the seriousness of the offences and how they would be viewed in the criminal justice system.

“But this lesson has now been lear ned.”

Medication is not always a panacea in depression treatment of adults and children, although is very useful in severe cases. But antidepressant drugs are a dangerous matter when they are diagnosed to a child.

After being evaluated by a psychiatrist specialized in children treatment, a depressed child shall follow the treatment diagnosed by him. Medication shall be diagnosed only if it is needed, since therapy will be the best choice in children treatment.

The doctor or other therapist, such as a psychologist or a social worker along with the parents of the depressed child will play an important role on the disease situation of their child either in therapy and/or receiving medication.

It is known that the number of children and teens diagnosed with depression in the United States have doubled between the years 1995 and 2004, as well as the use of antidepressant drugs have increased too. The use of psychotherapy or counseling, however, has declined.

According to experts, there may be a quantity of cases, where exist an inappropriate prescribing situation to children, as guidelines state that children shall be treated in a better way with either mental health counseling or a mix of counseling and medication.

Therefore, antidepressants should not replace talk therapy in kids as says FDA warnings, though new research shows an increase in prescriptions for the mood-altering drugs as therapy sessions declined.

Researchers of Stanford University School of Medicine stated that many teens received only medication, including drugs not approved for use by children, instead psychotherapy for treating children depression.

Many sites behind a given Adwords advertisement are unsubstantiated, auto-generated spam sites that throw ridiculous and unattainable products in your face. Therefore, the work at homer must stray away from Adwords, and navigate through the remainder of the “too-good-to-be-true’s” and the solid, honest programs.

So once you differentiate between the scam spam and the realistic opportunities, you are left with a few options:

First, you could apply to work for a job at a major company that you know employs work at home personnel. Some of these companies include JetBlue airlines, Dell, OfficeDepot.com and many, many telemarketing companies that require you to pay your own hefty phonebills and well as buy your equipment.

Or alternatively, you could take your future into your own hands and begin making your own income over the internet.
